Problem to be Solved:

In what materials will water be best filtered?

Hypothesis:

I think the sand and rocks will work the best to catch the paprika in the water.

Procedure:

1] Wash rocks and sand.
2] Put holes in the bottom of the plastic 2-liter soda bottles.
3] Mix water with paprika (500 ml of water, and 54 ml of paprika). Make equal equal amounts for each bottle.
4] Put powdered limestone and small rocks in one bottle.
5] Put sand and small rocks in another bottle.
6] Put small rocks in another bottle.
7] Put big and small rocks in another bottle.
8] Put metal screen, man-made screen, sponge cover with copper in it, and a vacuum bag in another bottle.
9] Put water with paprika in the bottles and let set until all water has drained out.
10] Measure the water.
11] Let the water evaporate.
12] Measure the paprika.

Materials:
Five 2-liter soda bottles
Water
Sand
Rocks (large and small)
Powdered Limestone
Screen
Paprika

Control Group:
My control group is paprika, water and no filter.

Conclusion:

My hypothesis was correct. I thought the sand and small rocks would work best to get the paprika out, and it did. Powdered limestone and small rocks had the least water left. I think if I had used smaller materials more paprika would have been filtered.

Biblical Application:

My project is on filtration and purification of water. Jesus talks about water in John 4:13-14 which says "Jesus answered her, 'all those who drink of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never thirst anymore. But the water that I give him shall become a spring of water welling up within him unto eternal life.'" God is living water and through Him we have eternal life. Jesus is clean and pure and made the water to be clean and pure for us to drink. We need water to drink for physical thirst, but we need spiritual water for spiritual needs.
